Message of Congratulations on the 48th Anniversary of the Glorious 27 April 1978 Revolution

Comrades and beloved people of our country!

With great pride, we extend our congratulations and best wishes on the 48th anniversary of the Glorious Saur Revolution to all our party comrades, to the courageous people of our beloved homeland, and to all progressive and anti-imperialist forces throughout the world. This was a historic uprising carried out by devoted military officers, toiling peasants, and revolutionary intellectuals.

27 April 1978 was the day when the red flag of the revolution was raised over the Arg of Kabul, the chains of despotism, reaction, imperialism, and feudalism were broken, and under the leadership of the Democratic People’s Party of Afghanistan, the dictatorial government of Mohammad Daoud Khan was overthrown. This paved the way for the establishment of the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan; a republic that took steps toward social justice, equality, the struggle against illiteracy, land reform, and women’s liberation.

Today, 48 years later, despite the conspiracies carried out by imperialism, regional reaction, and dark-minded forces that have driven the country toward war and destruction, the lofty ideals of the Saur Revolution remain alive. The New Standard-Bearers of the Democratic People’s Party of Afghanistan, relying on the legacy of Nur Mohammad Taraki, Babrak Karmal, Dr. Najib, and the other heroes of the revolution, continue their struggle for a democratic, independent, secular, and socialist Afghanistan.
