Statement of the Leadership Committee of the “New Standard-Bearers of the Democratic People’s Party of Afghanistan” Published: 2026-10-08 On the Occasion of 28 April 1992 On the Occasion of 28 April 1992 Workers, peasants, toiling masses, and progressive intellectuals of Afghanistan! 28 April 1992 was the day when, with the overthrow of the progressive and popular government, the historic achievements of the revolution and the struggles of the toiling masses of Afghanistan were crushed beneath the wheels of internal reaction and global imperialism. It was a bitter historical day on which reactionary, fundamentalist, and dependent forces consolidated their power and dragged the country into regression. The forces that seized power in the name of religion and jihad were, in reality, instruments of imperialist projects and regional reaction; a project whose objective was the destruction of every progressive, justice-oriented, and popular movement in Afghanistan. The outcome of this rule was nothing but devastation: economic infrastructure was destroyed, state institutions collapsed, women were suppressed, and the toiling masses were pushed to the margins of society. 28 April 1992 stands as a symbol of the defeat of one stage of the class struggle in Afghanistan and the beginning of the domination of reactionary and anti-popular forces. The New Standard-Bearers of the Democratic People’s Party of Afghanistan believe that without the rule of progressive forces and the class organization of workers and peasants, no genuine and lasting transformation can emerge in society; Social justice, liberation from exploitation, and an end to the domination of dependent capitalism are possible only through the conscious and organized struggle of the toiling masses; The genuine independence of Afghanistan depends upon breaking its dependence on imperialism and completely rejecting the domination of internal reactionary forces. On this day, while commemorating the memory of all the martyrs who fought for social justice and socialism, we reaffirm our commitment to the continuation of the struggle for a society free from exploitation, discrimination, and class oppression. We call upon workers, peasants, youth, and progressive women to raise, through unity and organization, the banner of the struggle for social justice, equality, and popular sovereignty, and not allow history to be repeated once again by reactionary forces. 28 April 1992 is a bitter lesson of history; but we neither forgive nor forget those responsible for it! Death to the crimes of the Mujahideen and the Taliban! Death to reaction and imperialism! Long live socialism! Leadership Committee Democratic People’s Party of Afghanistan – New Standard-Bearers
